The British Embassy in Chisinau is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to employ a Communications Assistant.

The successful candidate will lead on the Communications work across Embassy teams including digital, public diplomacy and work with the press. Ensure the visibility of the UK Government presence in Moldova.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Media and public affairs (80%)

  • Lead on public diplomacy to provide visibility to the work performed by Embassy teams; liaising closely with the projects, defence and PPA sections;

  • Develop media plans for Embassy activities and events identifying ways to enhance visibility; lead on media strategy for inward visits;

  • Organise and promote British Embassy public events;

  • Act as a focal point for press enquiries, identify opportunities for interviews for Her Majesty’s Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission;

  • Ad hoc tasks as required (eg update the Gov.uk page for Moldova).

 Chevening (10%)

  • Promote the Chevening scholarship programme, working with universities and other relevant actors to increase the visibility and attract high quality applicants;

  • Lead on selection process in liaison with the Chevening Secretariat;

  • Organise pre-departure and welcome events for Chevening scholars and alumni;

  • Maintain and enhance links with the Chevening alumni community.

 Political/Commercial (10%)

  • Provide support to/cover for Political Head of Section  as required;

  • Point of contact for British Businesses (both in UK and in Moldova), responding to requests on commercial issues;

  • Explore opportunities to increase commercial activity/visibility;

  • Ad hoc tasks as required; some aspects of the role may change over time and flexibility is an essential part of the job.


  • Excellent command of English (the successful candidate will be required to show evidence of English language skills at IELTS level 5.5 or above or CEFR level C1), Romanian and Russian (written and spoken) and be able to prepare press releases in all three languages;
  • Excellent computer skills;

  • Knowledge of the Moldovan press community and civil society;

  • Excellent organisation, communication and managerial skills;

  • Self-starter, team worker and able to respond flexibly to changing circumstances.


  • Experience with image and video editing software;
  • Experience drafting press releases.

  • University degree - preferably in Media, International Relations or related subject.
