The British Embassy in Vilnius is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Economic/Prosperity Officer to join its busy Political Team.

The successful candidate will lead on economic reporting and analysis for the Embassy and contributing to regional reporting. The jobholder will also lead on the delivery of the UK’s Prosperity Agenda, planning and implementing project work to improve market access for businesses, working closely with Department of International Trade (DIT) and coordinating with the network of Nordic and Baltic posts (NBN) in the region.

The job-holder will also manage visits and related project or political work. The job-holder will be a team player – working closely with other colleagues in the Political Section to support colleagues working on wider objectives. The job would suit those with previous experience in economic or political work or those with relevant studies looking to gain experience in an international environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Economic lead

  • Lead on domestic economic analysis and reporting, including through engagement with relevant Ministries and commentators;
  • Contribute to regional (NBN) economic reporting as required;
  • Report on developments in the world of business and innovation. Lead and coordinate relevant visits.

Prosperity lead

  • Work closely with DIT and the Science and Innovation Network to advance the UK’s prosperity agenda, for example through improvement of the business environment in Lithuania;
  • Help build the UK’s bilateral relationship with Lithuania on business and innovation as we leave the EU;
  • Analyse, plan and implement relevant projects in this area. Coordinate with the NBN Prosperity Group.

Political Team

  • Contribute to wider political and media reporting for the Embassy and for colleagues in London, filtering and summarizing key information from the political, social and economic areas of Lithuanian public life;
  • Provide the wider political team with a daily round up of the Lithuanian media headlines;
  • Regularly meeting stakeholders to be on top of latest developments, being able to inform the team on demand;
  • Providing team support for wider political activities, including senior visits, events and work.



  • Education to degree level ideally in a relevant subject e.g. international relations, politics or economics.
  • Fluent in English and Lithuanian;
  • A minimum of 3 years of previous experience on related work;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and oral, able to communicate effectively complex economic analysis in English
  • The ability to write clear, concise reports, to make effective presentations to a variety of audiences and to communicate best practices in a positive way;
  • Multi tasking, self motivated and able to work as a part of a team and independently;
  • Ability to influence and create engagement with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with competing priorities, working on own initiative but equally effective as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills, with very good attention to detail;
  • IT skills (MS Office).

  • Previous experience of working in an economic or political environment desirable.
