The British Embassy in Vilnius is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Political Support Officer to join its busy Political Team.

The successful candidate will provide support to the political section and lead on projects, to support the UK’s close working relationship with Lithuania. As well as supporting the work of the team, the role holder will have the opportunity to manage some of the team’s projects and events, which cover a wide range of issues from economics and trade, to foreign policy and security.

The job-holder will also have the opportunity to lead on a small portfolio of policy issues, including climate change, competitiveness, the digital single market, agriculture and fisheries. The candidate will be a first class administrator, with excellent team working skills and a proactive and creative approach to work. This role would not be suited to remote working.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Political team support

  • Assist with the organisation of Political Team visits, travel and events;
  • Develop and maintain effective administrative systems for tracking core support tasks;
  • Contribute to Embassy daily press briefings;
  • Provide cover for Communications Officer on ad-hoc basis (providing press and media monitoring and reporting); and
  • Support Her Majesty’s Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission with meetings, interpretation and translation as and when required.

Project management

  • Act as project manager under the direction of the Head of Political Team for Europe Prosperity Fund initiatives by liaising with relevant sections within the Embassy, implementing partners and contractors;
  • Prepare draft reports for approval by the Embassy Programme Board; and
  • Identify opportunities for new projects to promote the UK-Lithuania relationship.

Policy

  • Provide local reporting on energy, climate change, competitiveness, digital single market, agriculture and fisheries portfolios;
  • Research and report on other issues on behalf of Political Team as required;
  • Participate in official meetings and engage with officials/NGOs on particular topics as designated by HMA and DHM; and
  • Support delivery of the objectives in Lithuania of the Vilnius-based Baltics Science and Innovation (SIN) Attaché.

  • Fluent spoken and written Lithuanian and English;
  • Confident communicator
  • Experience in project management;
  • Ability to work as part of a team; and
  • Proven ability to prioritise, handle multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing circumstances;
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills, with very good attention to detail;
  • IT skills (MS Office).

  • Experience of working in an international environment.

This is a full-time permanent position with 35 hour net (40 hours gross) working week and a commitment to flexible working with a focus on providing a work-life balance, with the potential for some home-working.
