Community Liaison

The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a part-time Community Liaison Officer.

To work closely with Post Management for the well-being of all staff at Post, with primary function as advocate for and provision of support to UK-based staff and families (FCO and PAGs) on family and community issues, principally in the areas of information gathering, welfare and communication.

Specific duties will include:

  • Welcoming all new staff on arrival and ensuring they are well settled into the post;
  • Maintaining good communications within the Embassy community, providing information on social amenities, schools and job opportunities and organising targeted events;
  • Supporting the Deputy Head of Mission on staff morale and welfare issues;
  • Supporting Corporate Services with advice on housing;
  • Liaising with the Diplomatic Service Families Association in London.

-Information gathering for UK-based officers and their spouses/partners and families (including for those not yet in Kyiv). This may include: information on possibilities for spouse/partner employment in Ukraine and completion of an annual Spouse and Partner Employment Report for FCO; children's education (through completion of separate School and Nursery Information Sheets of authorised schools); feedback on adult education; career and training opportunities; advice on foreign-born spouse/partner issues; recreational facilities and social matters. Biannual completion of the Cost of Living report.

-Welfare at Post: welcoming all staff on posting/temporary duty/flexible deployment and accompanying families to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the life of the Embassy community; following up to check that staff and families are settling in; being a source of referral and support where questions or problems arise; providing short Post community induction.

-Advocate for UK-based staff and families in addressing issues of importance with Post Management, including as their representative on Post Joint Management Board, evacuation/contingency planning, security and housing committees, working with Corporate Services Team to identify appropriate accommodation, and as the chief link between the Embassy and the Diplomatic Staff Families’ Association in London.

-Communicating effectively on community and social matters across Post to all staff.

-Information management of Post Welcome Pack, CLO homepage on Post’s Intranet/SharePoint site, input to update and review of Post Report and Fact Sheet; management of domestic equipment float.


  • Knowledge and experience of living in the UK and abroad;
  • IT skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Desk-Top Publishing);
  • Counselling skills desirable.

  • Knowledge of Ukrainian and,or Russian is desirable;
  • Previous experience in a similar staff liaison role and in real estate (i.e. house searching/renting) is an advantage.

This is a part-time, permanent contract, sharing the job with the current CLO. Working hours are flexible and will need to be agreed with senior management.  

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Ukraine in order to apply.
