The British Embassy in Baghdad is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Business Manager - DFID, Grade – A2 (L).

 

Purpose of the job:

Administrative and corporate support to the Department for International Development’s (DFID) Iraq Team across a range of policy and programme priorities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Administrative support to the DFID Iraq team in Baghdad, including with office administration, supporting the Head of Team and liaising with internal and external service providers, arranging logistics, finance management, meetings and visits, and translation.
  • Programme management – providing support to DFID Iraq’s governance adviser with the management of DFID-funded stabilisation programming, including with quarterly performance reviews, finance, and reporting.
  • Stakeholder engagement – supporting DFID Iraq’s outreach to government ministries (at all levels) and international partners, including maintaining a register of other contact details, supporting DFID’s government and international influencing strategy, collating information on programming, managing events, and other logistics.
  • Policy input – supporting work to build the evidence base behind DFID Iraq’s development interventions

Essential:

  • Fluency in English and Arabic (both spoken and written).
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in a similar field (ex. Business management).
  • University degree
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Experience working in fast-paced team environment
  • Good working knowledge of MS suite of applications

Desirable:

  • Financial management experience
  • Experience of working with an NGO, and international organisation, or in the development / humanitarian sectors

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The starting salary for the role is $1,571 payable 13 times per year. In addition a monthly allowance of US$300 for security is payable. The allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time. The British Embassy also runs a performance related pay scheme and supports training and development for all staff.

This position is offered on British Embassy Baghdad’s Terms and conditions.

Normal working hours are Sunday - Wednesday 0800 – 1600 and Thursday 0800-1400. Due to the nature of the work, some flexibility on working hours will be required; time off in lieu will be arranged. The annual leave entitlement is 20 days plus up to 14 days public holidays [UK/Iraq]. Other benefits include the Embassy medical scheme (which also covers close dependents) and access to onsite facilities including a canteen.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 day probationary period.

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Receive the appropriate level of security clearance;
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) the right to live and work in Iraq. Candidate's residence permit and work permit, and the expense to obtain them, will be their own responsibility.
