The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT Europe is led by Her Britannic Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC). HMTC Europe manages teams in 32 markets, helping UK-based businesses to export to Europe and encouraging the best European businesses to invest in the UK. The Europe Central team covers 10 markets the region.

The Trade Advisor will work closely with the Senior Trade Advisor responsible for volume activities of the DIT Team in Bucharest to work with small and medium-sized companies interested in entering the Romanian market.

Much of this work will be responsive, answering enquiries received from companies or their local export promoters in the UK. You will support a Senior Trade Advisor in helping UK companies achieve success in exporting their goods and services. You will also provide admin support to the wider team.

This is a fixed term appointment created to support UK exporters over the period of exit from the EU.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Senior Trade Advisor on working with UK companies to help them enter the Romanian market. To assist UK companies to find high value business opportunities and partners in Romania and carrying out market research as appropriate. Your job will mostly consist of daily market research, supporting the Senior Trade Advisor and the wider team by analysing databases, regular contact making with companies through email and telephone, organizing skype/VTC meetings, and organising events and visits. 

  • To carry out data analysis and data recording; events organisation; budget management support; and contacts database management with a view to supporting the team`s prosperity and high value activities.

  • Most detailed export support work is a paid service, so you will have to administer the systems that commissions paid enquiry work and ensure that reports are completed on time.


  • Strong interpersonal skills, and fluency in English and Romanian, both verbal and written, with excellent writing and communication skills;

  • 1 year of commercial experience in an administrative position; 
  • A college / university level degree;
  • Experience of working autonomously, as well as being part of an international team;
  • Strong team player;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Internet. Experience with Oracle systems and databases preferred.

  • Experience at working in a dispersed network and communicating across a virtual team.
  • Experience in the Food and Drink, Agriculture, Fashion or Homewear sectors;

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months (35 hours net per week), which may be extended by a mutual agreement. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 4,048 RON gross. In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania.

For your information whilst the Emergency Ordinance 79/2017 is in place the job holder will receive a gross monthly compensation bonus of RON 805.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of up to 30 working days.
