Main purpose of job:

    

This role will assist in delivering foreign direct investment (FDI) to the UK from Quebec and the Atlantic Canada region of Canada and also provide support to British companies exporting goods and services to Canada.


Roles and responsibilities:


   

•             Conduct market research of industry and businesses for potential FDI across Quebec and Atlantic Canada


•             Monitor business trends and developments across Quebec and Atlantic Canada in a range of sectors


•             Identify and contact potential and existing inward investors


•             Coordinate business development visits and programmes for the Investment Officer


•             Prepare meeting briefs


•             Assist with event coordination as required including webinars, visits programmes, trade missions or bespoke events such as information seminars for Canadian or UK companies


•             Represent DIT at networking events


•             Monitor Quebec and Atlantic Canada public events and conferences pertinent to FDI work


•             Maintain and manage internal databases


•             Set up trade programs, if requested, for UK companies visiting Quebec


•             Complete ad hoc research for UK companies seeking to export to Quebec


•             Source export opportunities that will lead to export business for UK companies


•             Perform office administration tasks and other ad hoc duties as required


•             Occasional travel and out of office hours work may be required


 


 

Essential on arrival:      


•             Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field


•             A minimum of two years relevant work experience


•             Proven research skills


•             Knowledge of the business environment in Canada and a good understanding of Canada-UK commercial relations


•             Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and French


•             Ability to professionally communicate with senior level representatives from the public and private sectors


•             Attention to detail and good follow-up discipline


•             Time management and the ability to prioritize, effectively manage, and execute multiple and competing tasks under tight deadlines


•             Proactive nature and the ability to work under limited day-to-day supervision


•             Ability to work well independently as well as a part of a larger team


•             Positive team player


•             Computer literacy with specific knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Opportunities to attend ITI Induction tour in UK, if available, and possibly at Investment Officer discretion a Discovering Sector Knowledge (DSK) tour. There are also several DIT mandatory on-line training courses including the ITI Induction course and other on-line training courses e.g. Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, Cybersecurity etc
