The British Embassy in Moscow is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Local Decision Maker to work in the UKVI team, to assess and decide applications for entry clearance (visas) to the United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories and a range of Commonwealth Countries.

UKVI is the overseas arm of the UK’s immigration control. Moscow is one of the busiest visa sections in the world. Our people are committed to providing a first class service and are expected to be flexible, and make fair and defensible decisions on visa applications quickly, balancing the need for a high level of customer service with the requirement to maintain the integrity of the immigration control. It is very much a team orientated role and involves liaising with all members of staff in the embassy as well as other stakeholders outside of the embassy.   

Applicants must hold a full passport valid for at least 12 months for any of the following: United Kingdom, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and EU countries living (and eligible to work) in Moscow.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • To take a considered and pragmatic decision on Visa applications, abiding by the United Kingdom Immigration Rules, current legislation and guidance;
  • To undertake a paper-based assessment of applications and identify those who qualify for visas and issue without delay, with strict adherence to procedures:

            -  Clearly evidencing decisions, ensuring appropriate verification and security checks are undertaken;

            - Ensuring explanatory notes are accurate and written clearly in plain English;

            - Incorporating the latest intelligence and risk information into decisions;

            - Delivering customer service in line with agreed standards;

            - Updating all records accurately and using IT effectively.

  • To ensure that correspondence is quickly, professionally and accurately dealt with. To deal with enquiries from the public on a range of entry clearance matters if required.
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written);
  • Good IT skills, knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Bachelors degree and above;
  • Previous experience in Immigration work relating to the United Kingdom or other countries with similar systems;
  • Good command of reading / speaking skills in Russian language;
  • A typing speed of at least 30 wpm.

This is a full-time fixed-term contract for one year, 37 hours net per week. The working pattern will be discussed with the successful candidate.

The monthly salary for this position is Rub 101,873 gross (A2), paid 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
