he British Defence Staff US (BDSUS) represents the Ministry of Defence in the United States. Part of a US-wide footprint consisting of 1000 personnel, BDS is based in the British Embassy Washington. The Events and Communications Assistant will assist teams with both internal and external communications and events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the composition of internal communications, utilising a variety of different means, to keep staff updated on news and information.
  • Provide assistance in the creation of external leaflets to advertise the work of BDSUS and explaining how to work with the organisation.
  • Manage a social media account for communicating with staff and their families
  • Maintain Communications and Events inboxes, responding to emails and forwarding them on to others for action.
  • Support delivery of a formal BDSUS Reception, helping with invites, catering, logistics, and hosting.
  • Management of information on UKGov, keeping pages up to date, and considering improvements.

  • Must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships is required.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office packages, especially Outlook, Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Experience of using Facebook
  • Organisational and Time management skills
  • Skilled in both written and verbal communication

 

 

Under US State requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Documents. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.

This program offers internships for 15-25 hours per week during the semester. These are unpaid internships, for college credit only, but the Embassy does provide a stipend of $100 per month for transportation costs. This internship will start on 5 March 2018 and end on 1 June 2018.
