The role is widely designed to support the National Crime Agency (NCA) Italy Team in the delivery of its objectives. 

The National Crime Agency (NCA) leads UK law enforcement's fight to cut serious and organised crime. The NCA has national and international reach and facilitates cooperation between UK and International Law Enforcement Agencies and partners. The NCA Team in Rome is part of the International Liaison Officers Network. This main purpose of the job is to provide support to the Italy Team. The person recruited for this role will be responsible for carrying out a range of administrative duties as well other tasks as detailed below.

Roles and responsibilities

The main areas of responsibility will include: 

  • Translate written documents from Italian to English and vice-versa;

  • Support the Team in processing requests from Italian and UK law enforcement agencies;

  • Accurate maintenance of case files and logging of correspondence;

  • Act as interpreter at meetings with partners as required;

  • Provide support in the organisation of events such as workshops, conferences and receptions;

  • Assistance in general support duties such as administration and travel bookings;

  • Perform any other administrative tasks in cooperation with colleagues across the Italy Network and around the wider NCA Network;

  • Conduct open source research and analysis as needed;

  • Corporate: contribute to the broader corporate objectives of the Italy Network.

  • Fluency at C1 level both in English and Italian according to CEFR Framework*

  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft suite (incl. Microsoft Teams)

  • Experience in the organisation of small and large events

  • Effective cross team working and ability to engage internationally with diverse stakeholders

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills;

  • Good team player and competent decision maker; analytical and innovative

  • Knowledge of/interest in the Italian law enforcement and judicial landscape

This is a full-time fixed-term position with a contract of 12 months, graded AO according to the Civil Service grading structure. The annual gross salary is € 32,369. This includes € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year (pro-rata), with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.

Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday, typically from 09.00 – 17.00, with some flexibility.

All staff are enrolled in the Italian state social security and pension schemes, with flexibility to pay into the employee’s private pension scheme if chosen.

The appointment is subject to security clearance, professional background check and the successful completion of a probationary period of 4 months.

All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

Staff recruited locally by British diplomatic missions in Italy are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
