The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Protocol Messenger, Grade – S1.

 

Purpose of the job:

Liaison with Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to ensure prompt accreditation and residence issuing for UK diplomats and visitors at the British Embassy Amman (BE Amman). Working with the Jordanian authorities to ensure that all Jordanian processes are followed correctly for issuing of residencies, including accompanying staff who need assistance at the Ministries with protocol issues and assisting with the protocol for VIP visits. Delivery and receipt of all Dip mail between BE Amman, Jordanian Ministries and other Embassies. Working with Jordanian Ministries to facilitate the importation of Dip vehicles and other equipment.

 

Main Responsibilities:

• Liaison with MFA and the Dept of Immigration (Ministry of Interior) to accredit staff at BE Amman and issue correct visas for staff and residents at BE Amman (over 200 people).

• General messenger duties, including the collection and delivery of mail and Dip Notes, and clearing and accompanying deliveries of equipment into BE Amman.

• For VIP visits, at the airport/border crossings ensure passports are processed for smooth entry and exit into and out of Jordan.

• Understanding the Jordanian processes and explaining them to colleagues and customers.

• Initiation and follow up on the importation of vehicles to BE Amman including liaison with all the various Ministries involved (MFA, Min of Interior, Min of Transport, Customs and Security agencies). And the subsequent processes to register the vehicles for use.

• All the above rely on the establishment and building of relationships with Jordanian interlocutors at the various Ministries and agencies involved.

Essential:
• Good oral and written English and Arabic
• Valid Driving Licence for Jordan
• 5+ years experience of professional driving in Jordan.
• At least two years relevant work experience.
• Basic administration skills however must be able to operate a computer and understand word / excel / outlook
• Displays personal integrity, honesty and discretion

Desirable:
• Customer Service experience

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

Pay is on the Embassy S1 scale, starting at JOD 681 per month depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 21 days (pro rated) plus 14 public holidays.
