View Vacancy - Trade and Agriculture Policy Intern
• The British Embassy is looking for an intern to work in the Trade and Agriculture Policy team during the fall of 2018.
• This job sits within a team at the heart of the UK’s trade relationship with the United States. Strengthening the UK-US trade and investment relationship is a high priority for Her Majesty’s Government. The trade policy team in the Embassy has a major role in supporting the development of UK trade and agriculture policy. The intern will play an important role in facilitating the Embassy’s input to this.
• The successful candidate will report to the Policy Officer and work alongside the rest of the Trade Policy team. The internship requires cooperation with several different teams across the Embassy and the Department for International Trade.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support trade team with day-to-day office responsibilities.
• Facilitate (organise meetings and logistics) visits to the US by UK Ministers and officials.
• Conduct research and assist with reporting to London on trade and business issues.
• Attend and report on Congressional hearings, briefings and trade-related events (for example at think tanks).
• Assist the team’s outreach efforts by maintaining a database of relevant contacts, assisting with planning Embassy events, scheduling meetings and mapping views on trade.
• Compile weekly media searches on trade and business issues.
• Must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (at least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management.
• Strong interest in trade policy.
• Strong computer skills (e.g. Excel).
This program offers internships for 15-25 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. These are unpaid internships, for college credit only, but the Embassy does provide a stipend of $100 per month for transportation costs. This internship will start on 27 August 2018 and end on 14 December 2018.
Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Document. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
