Main purpose of job:

The main purpose of this job will be to support the effective functioning of the Maintenance Section.  

 

Roles and responsibilities:

The below roles and responsibilities are general guidelines. They are not limited to the detail below and are subject to change from time to time with prior consultation. 

Estates Function 80%

  • Weekly generator inspections for all Johannesburg residential properties including the DIT office. These duties include visual inspections, recording of running time, ensuring all generators are kept clean, etc.
  • Weekly inspections at the Tweeddale residential property and ensuring that all faults are reported to South Africa Maintenance mailbox for actioning.
  • Assist the estates team with maintenance requests on a daily basis for the Johannesburg properties/office
  • Carry out regular inspections on fuel storage and cleaning materials
  • Prism –   raising of requisitions and receipting of works once completed. This will include overseeing contractors on site, etc.
  • Updating Pyramid as and when needed
  • Complete and maintain property/office inventories, this to include the basement in the office
  • Office and building management – reporting faults, meetings and escorting contractors
  • Action stationery requests for the Johannesburg office
  • Purchasing on behalf of the Corporate Services team and reconciling Government Procurement Cards in accordance to the required deadlines,
  • Complete log book for all residential/office keys  

Security Function 10% (Monday to   Friday)

  • Liaising  with ADT for property alarms
  • Managing the contractors for the Johannesburg region.  

Health and Safety Function 10%

  • Health & Safety Representative for DIT

Ad-hoc duties as and when required by the Post Security Manager and Estates Manager

  • Microsoft office (Excel a must have)
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and initiative
  • Good customer service skills coupled with an ability to handle difficult customers
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good organising skills
  • Valid drivers license
  • Matric

The British High Commission pays in full for the Key Care Plus option on Discovery Health for staff including spouses/partners and dependants.

Once you have successfully completed your probation the British High Commission will contribute 9 % of your monthly salary to a Provident Fund.
