The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political,economic and consular interests overseas is now looking for a Head of Communications for the Kazakhstan network including writing and implementing the overall strategy.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver HMG’s communications strategy in Kazakhstan (media relations, digital diplomacy, stakeholder engagement through public events) in accordance with global best practice;
  • Plan and direct the Embassy’s output on social media channels and the website; produce multimedia content in conjunction with Communications Officer;
  • Advise on and implement media policy for national and wider Central Asia regional projects;  
  • Lead communications for VIP and other senior visits, including development of media briefing and evaluation reports;
  • Analyse and interpret local media content to inform policy development;
  • Manage use of Foreign & Commonwealth Office Corporate branding and identity in the Embassy’s projects and public events;
  • Manage the Communications Section budget (tracking, forecasting and profiling) and line manage Communications Officer;
  • Maintain a wide network of local media contacts and deal with local media enquiries.

  • Previous Communications management qualifications and experience;
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English and Russian languages;
  • Experience of working in an international environment;
  • Excellent communications skills;
  • Customer focus and delivery;
  • A self starter that can work well both individually and in a team;
  • Strong analytical and judgemental skills;
  • IT proficiency – Using MS Office, Outlook, SharePoint and ability to learn FCO systems;
  • knowledge of local media environment and media contacts;
  • Able to work with photo/video camera, at least at the basic level, and make high-standard written translations. 
  • Good spoken and written Kazakh would be an asset.

This is a full-time position of five working days 36 hours net per week, excluding lunch hours, for an initial contract period of 12 months, which may be extended by mutual agreement.

Salary will be USD 1483.58 per calendar month (gross). A 13th month salary is payable at the end of the year. Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

Employees are entitled to 25 working days leave per calendar year at the beginning of service. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays.

The Embassy provides medical insurance for employees and dependants.

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply.
