Border Force

Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters. We are responsible for managing the UK border control by enforcing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking.

The UK and France have been working closely to secure the border at the juxtaposed ports and the Sandhurst treaty, signed in January 2018 by Theresa May and Emanuel Macron, set out plans for the construction of the new Joint Centre for Information and Coordination (CCIC) along with its sphere of competence.

  • The Management and prevention of threats to public order on the cross-border transport infrastructures located in the Nord Pas-de-Calais.
  • Crisis Management Centre in the event of acute migratory pressure. A platform to assist decision making by the competent Departmental Prefects.
  • The support of action to counter the operations of smuggling rings, human traffickers and criminal networks in Nord Pas-de-Calais via close cooperation between the competent services.

The implementation and smooth running of the CCIC is of specific interest to the Immigration Minister and the Regional Director reports weekly to him on the latest situation across Northern France.

The key to the success of the centre is the ability to form strong, effective relationships with French partners and to provide a link to UK law enforcement and intelligence partners. This is essential to reinforce the real-time reactions and exchanges needed to dismantle organised crime networks involved in cross border criminality.

The Bilingual Administrative Officer position, based in Northern France at the CCIC in Coquelles, is to support the Border Force officers and managers that maintain the CCIC 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities listed below but not exhaustive:

  • Overseeing office equipment, adequate provision of stationery, reporting and escalating accommodation and health and safety issues.
  • Liaison with Border Force South East & Europe offices in the UK in matters of statistics, finance, transport, accommodation, health & safety, procurement and information technology.

  • Attendance at high level meetings, interpreting and assisting with the readouts. Meetings usually take place in Calais town or the CCIC building but there may be a requirement to travel further afield in France and the UK.
  • Translating official documents, briefings, intelligence products, alerts and readouts. This will take up most of the work as many documents pass through the CCIC that require translating into French or English.
  • Arranging access for Border Force members of staff, partners and contractors.
  • Production of statistical documents.
  • Fluent English and French, both written and spoken (C2 European Framework*)
  • Excellent customer facing orientation, organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, word, Excel and Sharepoint applications.
  • High level of discretion and integrity.
  • Strong interpreting and translation skills with knowledge of law enforcement vocabulary (or the ability to learn quickly)
  • General familiarity of UK/French Law Enforcement;
