The British Embassy in The Hague, part of a worldwide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British Political, Economic and Consular interests overseas is now looking for an Events Manager to cover a position in a maternity leave

We are looking for an enthusiastic customer-oriented self-starter, with excellent organisational skills and a good eye for detail. As an Events Manager in the Ambassador’s Residence, the successful candidate will be responsible for organising and managing events at the Residence in close cooperation with the Executive Officer to the Ambassador, the Residence Manager and Embassy colleagues.

Main roles and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with colleagues in the Embassy to identify opportunities for events;
  • Coordinate the Residence Events Calendar in cooperation with the Executive Officer and the Residence Manager;
  • Arrange event logistics, guests lists, invitations, catering and staffing;
  • Maintain & develop relationships with external catering and staffing partners;  
  • Plan and manage events budget;
  • Deal with events administration – contracts, invoices and payments;
  • Provide cover for Executive Officer to the Ambassador;
  • Work flexibly in the role and as part of a wider Embassy team.  
  • Fluency at a C level oral and written in English according to CEFR Framework
  • Ability to work flexible hours in support of events hosted at the Residence.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with proven ability to plan and prioritise tasks;
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to work effectively within a team;
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with solid communication skills to persons at all levels (both internal and external partners);
  • A proven ability to anticipate and solve problems and pay close attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage budgets and report event costs to management team;
  • Excellent IT Skills
  • Dutch language skills would be an advantage;
  • Previous Events Management experience;
  • Previous Office Management experience.
  • Experience in hospitality

The successful candidate will initially be offered a time of employment contract at grade level. The base salary for this position is € 3,189.12 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% holiday bonus and a monthly working from home allowance are payable. Actual commuter travel expenses up to a limit or a monthly set travel  allowance  for commuter costs are payable depending on the role and how often office work is needed. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff.

The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check; Any job offer is also provisional to a successful security clearance check.

Qualifying staff will have no Dutch income tax levied on their salary and will therefore be paid an abated salary reduced  by the applicable  tax they would have had to pay if that local liability had existed. A tax abated salary ensures a fair and comparable take home pay. Staff on tax abated salaries cannot claim tax benefits in The Netherlands but they are fully and comprehensively covered for social security and deemed to be resident local staff for all intents and purposes.”
