We are now looking for a Senior Investment Adviser to join our Department for Business & Trade (DBT) team in Stockholm. Within the Embassy, the DBT leads on strengthening economic ties between the UK and Sweden, by promoting trade, supporting business growth, and helping international companies invest and expand in the UK.  

What will you do?

As our new Senior Investment Adviser, your main purpose will be to promote the UK as the investment destination of choice for Swedish companies, whether they are looking to set up a subsidiary, or expand existing operations.

You will:

  • Identify opportunities by monitoring Swedish industry trends and spotting companies with potential to set up or expand in the UK;
  • Build and manage senior‑level relationships with business leaders, investors, and key industry stakeholders;
  • Promote the UK as the investment destination of choice, highlighting strengths across our nations and regions and within key sectors such as:
    • Advanced Manufacturing (including semiconductors & space)
    • Clean Energy Industries
    • Foundation Industries (construction, minerals, metals & steel, ports/logistics)
    • Capital Investment
  • Progress investment opportunities through the inward investment cycle, providing insight, guidance, and connections that support companies' expansion decisions;
  • Develop and maintain a 3‑year active investment pipeline, ensuring accurate, timely pipeline management and forward planning;
  • Build strong professional networks and work closely with UK regional leads, Embassy colleagues, and other UK/Swedish stakeholders;
  • Project‑manage and deliver key investment‑focused activities, including senior visits and engagements, events, and cross‑government initiatives;
  • Contribute to wider UK Government priorities on growth, economic security, and innovation;
  • Travel for business across Sweden, the Nordic‑Baltic region, Europe, and the UK as and when required.

Our ideal candidate shows:

  • Proficiency in English and Swedish (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR* framework);
  • A university degree (or equivalent professional experience) in business, economics, international relations, finance, or another relevant field;
  • At least 5 years of Business management & development professional experience or similar roles;
  • An understanding of international expansion and how companies grow into new markets;
  • Proven experience of building strong, trusted working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior business contacts;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple accounts, projects, or high‑value activities simultaneously;
  • Knowledge of Swedish industry strengths;

And is a:

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, able to interpret market information, identify leads, and support informed decision‑making;
  • Confident user of Excel, Word, CRM tools, Microsoft Teams and Copilot.

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of UK industry strengths;
  • Experience working across multiple sectors or adapting to changing portfolios.

This is a full-time, permanent position of 5 working days per week (40 hours per week, including a 60-minute lunch break each day). The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Swedish employment law.

Working Patterns: The British Embassy operates a flexible working culture. Staff may work up to one day per week from home, subject to business needs and agreement with the line manager. Given the nature of the Embassy's work, including supporting projects, events and external engagements, there may be times when out-of-hours work may be required to meet operational needs. We aim to provide advance notice wherever possible.
