View Vacancy - Internal Communications Intern
The Internal Communications Intern will support the Internal Communications Advisor (ICA) with all aspects of the US Network's internal communications. The position sits under the Corporate Services umbrella; however, it is a unique cross-team opportunity that works in tangent with the broader Communications and Embassy teams. This role will partner with the ICA, helping with, among other things, change-management campaigns, the launch of UKGov.net, and coordinating and producing current publications. This position will have the opportunity to interact with colleagues in Partners Across Government (PAGs) departments as well as colleagues from Posts around the US (we oversee internal communications for the entire US Network that includes the Embassy and 11 Posts with more than 15 PAGs and more than 1,400 employees).
Duties include, but may not be limited to:
- Supporting management and launch of UKGov.net, a new Intranet site;
- Producing publications (e.g. Newsletters, notes);
- Coordinating and organising editorial calendars;
- Managing the team's shared email communications.
- Must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (at least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships is required;
- Pursuing degree/completed coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, English, Business, or a related field;
- Strong writing skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills and networking ability to facilitate effective and beneficial communications.
- Previous experience using SharePoint or other intranet platforms;
- Print or web graphic design experience.
Under US State requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Documents. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
This program offers internships for 15-25 hours per week during the semester. These are unpaid internships, for college credit only, but the Embassy does provide a stipend of $100 per month for transportation costs. This internship will start on 22 August 2016 and end on 9 December 2016.
Resume and a cover letter should be submitted by 22 June 2016. Please note in your cover letter if you are currently eligible to work at the Embassy. Due to the high volume of resumes we receive, we cannot guarantee consideration of your application if the submission instructions are not properly followed.
