The British Embassy in Washington, DC is looking for an temporary Accommodation Coordinator to work within the British Defence Staff.  The position is responsible for the allocation of housing to all Ministry of Defence (MOD) personnel assigned to the DC area and assisting in the approval of accommodation for personnel posted across America. This position will be offered for approximately 3-4 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Source MOD leased properties in the Washington DC Metro Area for allocation in incoming personnel in accordance with current BDS Housing Policy and entitlement.
  • Approve accommodation for personnel posted to DC, VA and MD who source their own accommodation on arrival.
  • Coordinate housing requirements with personnel posted to the USA, providing value for money for customer focused service within current guidelines.
  • Ensure that all personnel who source their own accommodation complete all the required forms and ensure that security deposits and rent payments are processed on time.
  • Conduct March Outs with outgoing personnel in MOD leased properties ensuring that accommodation is cleaned to the required standards.
  • Liaise with personnel, landlords and property management agents to negotiate and approve leases, lease extensions and the return of security deposits.
  • Arrange payments of security deposits and monthly rental payments using Oracle Property Manager database.
  • Respond to customer enquiries regarding the housing process from arrival to departure. 
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong independent judgement and problem solving skills, for example to ensure smooth efficient functioning of the office in the absence of the Furnishings Coordinator.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to display a strong attention to detail and to prioritize work accordingly.
  • Ability to take responsibility and exercise considerable discretion.
  • Good IT skills (including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Driving licence and car

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or NATO visa holders with EAD cards*. The hourly rate for this position is $19.08.  Salary will be confirmed upon offer of employment.
