View Vacancy - Executive Office Internship
The British Consulate-General in Los Angeles is the United Kingdom’s diplomatic mission responsible for the Pacific Southwest, including Southern California, Arizona, Nevada’s Clark County, Utah and Hawai’i.
The Consulate-General’s Executive Office maintains the contact details and management of diplomatic receptions, dinners and other entertainment events in support of Britain’s strategic goals in the consular region.
The Consulate-General’s Executive Office section is offering one unpaid internship, focusing on diplomatic events.
Responsabilities:
- Maintaining and regularly updating the Executive Office database of contacts to include full contact, dietary and other personal details;
- Assisting the Chief of Staff in answering telephone and other inquiries coming into the Executive Office;
- Working with the Consul General, Deputy Consul General and Press Section within the Consulate as appropriate for each event, draw up invitation lists and invitations, send out invitations and receive and monitor replies;
- Undertake administrative duties for the Press Team – daily press summaries, up-date of data bases and other duties, as required;
- Checking dietary restrictions and other special requirements (e.g. security details);
- Assist with guest arrival at some Residence receptions;
- Liaison as appropriate with sponsoring or beneficiary organisations about invitation lists, publicity etc.
- Must be a junior/senior in an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange is required. Ideal candidates will be studying Communications, Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Sociology or other similar majors;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrate the ability to process confidential information with the utmost discretion;
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Under US State requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Documents. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
