Main purpose of job:

To promote the UK as the preferred inward investment destination to Indian companies looking to invest and set up business operations overseas. Encouraging high value investments including through technology tie ups, as well as research and development and joint venture partnerships. 

Identifying potential Indian inward investors from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala & Tamil Nadu, encouraging and assisting them to set up their business or expand further in the UK. As the inward investment adviser for these four key states the role would be to drive investment, from these regions, which are in the primary sectors of Technology, Life Sciences and Advanced Engineering and to identify high value investment projects in these sectors. To act as the face of the British Government to Indian companies and to manage relations with key decision-makers in leading corporate houses as required.

As a key member of the South India Inward Investment Team the role would also involve working across teams to secure Department for International Trade(DIT) involved Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) wins and marketing the UK as investment springboard to growth to high value individuals.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Lead generation and Research (%) –30%

Lead Generation & Research: To support the Senior Inward Investment Advisers (SIIA) in lead generation/identification of potential inward investors based in South India and contribute in maintaining a healthy pipeline of active projects.

CRM management - Databases / Reporting on projects ( %) -20%

Maintain an up to date record of interactions with companies on the DIT’s Customer Data Management System and effective reporting to HQ on the status of projects. Support the SIIAs in the region on the effective delivery of a co-ordinated regional target for the India network.

Visits / events/ finance management ( %)  - 30%

Company visits/sales: Undertake company-visit programmes on prospective and active inward investment projects advocating UK’s strengths as Europe’s no. 1 inward investment destination and secure their investment into the UK.

Marketing & Sales: Assist in the successful delivery of outreach, conferences, and promotional GREAT events in the Marketing plan and other ad hoc visits by VIP/senior officials to the Post.  Follow up with the leads as a result of our participation.

Miscellaneous: Attend networking events, report case studies on successful investments, maintain stock of publications & incentive items for events, report/manage spending in local budget, raise Purchase Orders and enhance relationship with industry associations and multiplier agencies for lead generation.

Support & Maintenance ( %) – 20%

To maintain active contact with significant existing investors with a view to assist in their expansion plans. Support in regular follow up with active & pursuit projects.

  • Knowledge of FDI and business drivers.
  • Have a Graduate level education with 3-4 years of relevant business/marketing experience.
  • Be an energetic, self-starter, with high standard of spoken & written business English.
  • Be confident in dealing over phone and face-to-face with a wide range of senior India and British business contacts.
  • Be customer focussed and strong team player, with good interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Excellent event organisation and management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.

Language requirements:

Language: English /Hindi

Level of language required: Expert for English

  • Basic knowledge of industry sectors in India - ICT, Advance Engineering, Life Sciences and Education.
  • Knowledge on UK’s key strengths as an investment destination for overseas businesses would be advantageous.
  • Training/guidance given once in job: Training on some of the UK’s key sectors attracting FDI and Data hub – DIT’s Customer Database Management System.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be ­­­­­­INR 68,508 with 12% provident fund and 6% Superannuation Fund.

Please note - BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
