Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Monitor media and share news coverage within the embassy and US network on key issues of interest to the UK-US relationship, with occasional written media coverage summaries as requested.
  • Coordinate press team events, meetings and media briefings.
  • Manage press team databases, including but not limited to subscription lists, media lists, and media monitoring distribution lists
  • Lead day-to-day press activity, where relevant, on corporate issues and freedom of information requests
  • Lead on journalist press accreditation
  • Support on monitoring and planning forward-looking activity, proactively seeking communications opportunities and media moments
  • Support the Head of Communications and Head of News on press team activity
  • On occasion, provide out of hours press support

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Fluent in English; Strong written and verbal English communication skills required

Other skills / experience / qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with project and budget management
  • Proven ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread;
  • Demonstrated ability to take control and follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

  • Job will be remote with option to work flexibly from the office as capacity allows until broader return-to-work guidance is issued
  • Full-time work schedule required (9:00am-5:30pm)
  • Flexibility to occasionally work from home pending approval from line manager.
  • Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
