The Department for International Trade (DIT) aims to promote British trade and investment across the world which is vital for the prosperity of the UK. DIT brings together trade promotion, trade policy and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment in markets across the world to help businesses succeed. As member of DIT’s Trade team in Finland, the Trade Adviser’s role is to assist UK-based companies looking to export goods and services to Finland in major export sectors or large-scale projects. You are a self-starter, interested in assisting companies in any sector. You will help identify and address existing and emerging market access barriers in collaboration with trade policy colleagues. You are required to proactively identify opportunities for UK businesses in Finland, and to communicate those opportunities to companies in the UK. You will advance trade by organising outward and inward missions, targeted events and attendance at trade shows.

The Trade Adviser is expected to deliver measurable results in the form of verified business won by UK exporters in Finland as a result of assistance provided. The DIT team in Finland collaborates with other DIT teams across Europe on sector-specific initiatives, and with other teams in the British Embassy on areas of mutual interest.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify value opportunities in Finland for UK-based businesses; communicating the opportunities through DIT’s services and by direct contacts with UK-based trade associations and other industry bodies, and following up with interested companies directly. (ca. 35% of time)
  • Independently plan and carry out activities which lead to UK-based businesses increasing exports and winning contracts in Finland, through e.g. trade events, tailored market research, competitor analysis and addressing market access issues in Finland. (ca. 35% of time)
  • Build contacts within the Finnish business community to facilitate introduction of UK-based companies into the market and in order to identify supply chain opportunities. Collaborating with teams across the embassy to advance developments in the wider business environment and to contribute to the embassy’s wider work. (ca. 30% of time)

This is a full-time permanent contract.
