The Department for International Trade has an exciting opportunity for a confident, motivated and experienced HR Professional in Asia Pacific. This is a new, stretching role supporting a network going through a period of growth and change.

DIT Asia Pacific has over 200 staff working across 13 countries stretching from New Zealand to Myanmar, led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC); Natalie Black.


Roles and responsibilities

People Data


  • Manage staff and structure-related data and information to provide the APAC senior management team with up to date and accurate people data
  • Work with DIT pay and reward to understand local market pay, recruitment and retention data and use insights to develop a pay and reward strategy for the APAC region.

Learning and Development


  • Develop and deliver regional Learning & Development plan, including budget management, planning and logistical support.
  • Highlight current skills and strengthens, as well as spot gaps and areas for development and recommend ways to address these that are realistic and in line with the L&D budget.
  • Develop close working relationships with the Diplomatic Academy Regional Team (DART) in APAC and DIT HQ to identify regional training opportunities to further drive increased capability in support of the Regional Trade Plan.
  • Establish an informative and inspiring induction for all new staff in region, aligned with HQ and utilising blended learning approach (including e learning, webinars and formal training).

Staff Engagement

  • Design and lead on an APAC reward and recognition scheme to reward our talented performers across the region.
  • Working with APAC HR Business Partner to develop, implement and raise awareness of the APAC People Plan for the Network ensuring it aligns with the DIT People Plan.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in London (HR and others) in order to understand new developments, how they will impact the network and then put in place various actions to operationalise.

Essential on arrival

  • Experience in an HR manager or L&D role
  • Proven project management skills and experience
  • Excellent prioritisation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working in the public sector and/or for the UK government
