The British Consulate in Barcelona is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and we are seeking to recruit an Intern for the Department for International Trade in Barcelona.    

The intern selected will have the chance to join a multinational/multicultural environment that will allow him/her to learn and get excellent experience in the Department for International Trade. He/she will work in a mainly administrative and support role with many opportunities to work in areas such as event management, relationship with UK and Spanish companies, business reporting and social media communications. This is a good opportunity to put into practice and broaden his/her business and communication skills.

The Intern will

  • Support DIT Barcelona on upcoming projects around Smart City Live; Mobile World Congress & 4YFN; Tech, Clean Growth & Life Sciences Campaigns, and market investigation.
  • help DIT team in the delivery of services to British exporters (market research by sector, cold calling, visit arrangements, event organisation support etc).
  • Support DIT team in the delivery of services to potential Spanish investors in the UK (market research by Autonomous Region and sector, research company profiles, support with the promotion of UK as an investment destination).

 

Specific support required for all BCN team on the following projects:

  • Strategic Relationship Management of existing investors, & UK exporters during & post transition – especially research & collation of relevant business intelligence.
  • Organisation of online meeting programmes & webinars between UK and Spain companies, including Midlands Engine Connect for LS; Industry Digitalisation webinar, transition period updates
  • Upcoming activities include Waste Traceability Seminar (2020) Biotech Breakfast (Feb 2021); LegalTech Encuentro (2021); Scottish Minister visit to BCN to engage companies for COP26




  • High level of self-motivation and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work remotely as part of a team as well as on own initiative when required
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point)
  • Ability to look for information about a company or sector on the Internet and obtain information by phone
  • Able to work under pressure and to juggle competing deadlines
  • Good Knowledge of social media channels, mainly Twitter and LinkedIn

  • Currently studying a degree related to business or marketing

This is a part-time temporary internship position contract and the working hours are 25 hrs per week.

The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check and security clearance.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy / Consulate based on gross annual salary.

The British Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.

Visa / passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
