View Vacancy - Vice Consul (CVP18.704)
The British High Commission in Cyprus, part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a temporary Vice Consul to help lead on the delivery of first class customer service, consular assistance and support to resident and visiting British Nationals.
As a Vice Consul, you will be a key member of the High Commission team working on the delivery of Consular Services and tracking the impact of the UK’s exit from the European Union on property and residents’ issues ensuring accurate information is available for UK nationals, including website content, and you will support pro-active outreach and engagement campaigns to UK nationals. Your job will therefore require travel across Cyprus.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Specifically, as an integral part of the High Commission Team, you will:
- Ensure efficient handling of assistance cases in line with guidance, maintaining an overview of cases and system usage as well as providing support and advice where necessary. Lead on high profile cases and incidents liaising with key stakeholders including London based colleagues. Carry out Notarial and Documentary services. Respond to escalated enquiries from members of the public;
Keep abreast of evolving consular policy as well as changes to Cypriot governmental processes that may impact resident British Nationals, ensuring implementation and liaison with appropriate Ministries. Lead on the implementation of change management projects aimed at providing more efficient, effective and better quality services;
- Respond to crises. Test local crisis plans ensuring staff fully trained. Contingency plan for large-scale events including preparation of digital advice. Work with London colleagues and news desk to update on incidents and Travel Advice. Ensure delivery of Summer Consular Prevention plan. Update digital gov.uk consular content. Liaison with tour operators and other interlocutors as appropriate;
- Act as Property Officer for the Mission, ensuring that policy issues affecting British nationals are communicated appropriately. Liaise with authorities on generic property issues, including those for the northern part of Cyprus identifying, communicating solutions where necessary, and advising senior management accordingly.
- At least 5 years of previous experience in a customer facing role and ability to respond to a wide range of customer needs;
- Language skills: English at C1 level or above and Greek at B2 or above under the Common European Framework of References for Languages;
- Excellent communicator, strong outreach and networking skills;
- Excellent time management and organisational skills; ability to work without close supervision;
- Resilience and resistance to trauma; ability to cope with the challenging nature of consular work;
- Good team player and competent decision maker; analytical and innovative;
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, able to adapt to various programmes/systems.
- Knowledge of Cyprus government structures and processes.
Previous Consular experience;
Turkish speaker;
Experience responding to crisis situations or crisis training.
This is full time, fixed term contract for 6 months.
The gross monthly salary for this position is €2,328 at B3(L) grade level.
The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures.
The successful candidate must be free of any convictions, and undergo a UK security clearance process.
