View Vacancy - Senior Trade Adviser (BEL18.057)
The British Embassy in Brussels is part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Trade Adviser.
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Belgium and other international markets. DIT also assists overseas companies to bring high-quality investment to the UK’s economy.
As part of a small team and a global network, the job holder will support British companies in the pursuit of commercial opportunities in Belgium. Main objective will be to increase UK business contacts, promote export opportunities and help British companies to win business with a primary focus on food and drink, consumer goods and healthcare sectors.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing professional advice and support to UK companies wishing to develop business in Belgium, focusing primarily on the food and drink, consumer goods and healthcare sectors;
- Planning and delivering targeted campaigns and activities in these sectors aimed at increasing the demand for UK goods and services in Belgium;
- Identification and generating commercial opportunities, matching and introducing UK suppliers into these market opportunities;
- Conducting high quality market research and competition analyses, organising meeting programmes and events for UK companies;
- Organising and running events in line with the business plan, either independently or in cooperation with internal or external partners;
- Building and maintaining a network of stakeholders, commercial partners and multipliers in Belgium as well as in the UK;
- Attending relevant events both in Belgium and in neighbouring countries as required;
- Contributing to the work of the commercial team, ensuring the delivery of team targets and contributing to the wider economic diplomacy agenda of the British Embassy.
- A self-starter, demonstrating a flexible, pro-active and entrepreneurial attitude;
- A strong team player with good people skills;
- Good customer relationship management skills and some account management experience;
- Good organisational and networking skills;
- Effective time management: able to handle the multiple priorities of the role within the agreed deadlines;
- Good IT skills;
- Fluent spoken and written English, business level knowledge of French and Dutch.
- A good understanding of the UK and Belgian business scenes;
- Knowledge or previous work experience in one or more of the following sectors: food and drink, consumer goods or healthcare;
- Experience of dealing with business in an international context;
- Experience in business development.
This is a permanent full-time contract for 5 working days (36.5 hours net) per week.
The monthly gross salary for this position is €3,681.33 B3 (L) level (The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation).
Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
