The main purpose of the job is to attract, retain & add value to Australian companies with UK expansion ambitions.
Specifically, the job holder will provide business set-up assistance, sector information, locational guidance and expansion support to both new and existing, high-growth businesses to fast-track the delivery of successful UK base.
The job holder will report to the Senior Manager Business Relations and form part of a wider UK network at the British Consulate and the British High Commision.
Roles and responsibilities:
This exciting, business engaging role will work with large capital intensive Australian companies and Australian leading technology businesses seeking to expand into the UK:
You will have technology sector expertise in strategy, marketing, planing and execution. The jobholder will work with the Senior Business Relations Manager to develop a business plan to target high-growth technology companies and attract them to the UK. In creating and delivering the business plan you will liaise with HQ London, marketing and communications team in Australia and the wider regional APAC team where appropriate and required.
The role will also require attendance and some presentations at events, relationship building at industry forums and require the ability to communicate effectively. An ability to network, establish strong relations with the startup ecosystem, and other industry multipliers to actively support and leverage outcomes will be viewed favourably. 25%
The role will include an element of travel to visit companies as well as for learning and development.
This role requires working deeply with each expanding company to support their internal decision-making processes. This will be achieved through account management, project management, relationship management, and administration of the Department’s data needs.
Essential to the role will be the ability to communicate UK information and materials to each company. The role requires collaboration through a virtual team structure in Australia and New Zealand (colleagues are located in Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Wellington and Auckland), with UK based sector team colleagues, UK regional team colleagues, and a centralised investment services team – who each play a supporting role to the jobholder providing introductions, economic data and research. 50%
A management function will also require sound administration and accountability for accurate budget forecasting and acquitting expences in line with value for money and policy. Occasional management of interns may be required. 20%
The role will include some strategic support and assistance to the broader DIT team (including with the UK trade exports colleagues), the British Consulate-General staff at Post and the wider Australia network. 5%
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate field
- A minimum of three years’ work experience in business, ideally in an international & B2B context, or in business development.
- Ability to develop and maintain networks with senior decision makers
- Strong inter-personal, networking, presentation and communication skills
- Good knowledge of the Australian business environment
- Ability to deliver to ambitous targets and outcomes
- Strong research and analytical skills
- IT literate
- Some knowledge of the UK’s business environment, and some regional centres of the UK.
- Some knowledge of the processes involved in overseas company expansions (foreign direct investment).
- Some knowledge of investment decision processes.
Salary is at AU$ 71, 540 per annum (paid out monthly), plus 11% superannuation.
Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.
Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and partners/ dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Australia.
Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission and its Consulates is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Australian employment law.
