The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Norway and is now looking to recruit a Senior Market Adviser for the Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Norway and other international markets. DIT also assists overseas companies to bring high-quality investment to the UK’s economy.

The successful jobholder will be responsible for pursuing Norwegian investors with the objective of winning (attracting and retaining) inward investment to the UK. For this position, the sector focus will be particularly, but not exclusively within Science and Technology sectors; Advanced Manufacturing; Aviation and Travel; Retail; and Financial and Professional Services including FinTech. The jobholder will be expected, to develop a pipeline of investment projects by researching the Norwegian market and engaging with Norwegian industry. Furthermore, they will liaise with the London DIT HQ, sector organisations, partners (Ministers, OGD, networks and Devolved Administrations), and sector specialists; conveying Norwegian interest (and position) to obtain the best UK proposition for communication back to Norwegian clients. Also, the jobholder is expected to shape, plan and execute company visits, events and initiatives that will generate leads to build a pipeline of projects, manage the resources needed efficiently and report the outcome of the delivery. They will be responsible for timely capture, recording and maintaining information from interactions, services offered and wins on our CRM systems or other platforms. In more detail, main responsibilities will include:

Strategic focus

  • Shaping and executing (investment) business development plans, advising UK and Norwegian stakeholders on opportunities and investors’ challenges through marketing, networking and business development initiatives;
  • Contribute to the development of strategic account plans for key Norwegian companies, and partake as a member of virtual account teams.

Tactical focus

  • Proactively identify leads of direct investors; encouraging Norwegian companies to set up a UK entity, or increase their UK footprint. Communicate the UK offer.

Operational tasks

  • Monitoring, assessing and following up on DIT internal business, including feeding in to pipeline discussions with HQ and our service delivery partner IST;
  • Following up on UK delivery partners on the development of UK proposals;
  • Engaging in wider DIT and Embassy activities where supporting UK’s FDI interests;
  • Support with information and statistics to briefing documents for DIT Oslo.

 

Administration

  • Data capture, reporting and resource management, including self-development.
  • Fluency in Norwegian and English (both oral and written);
  • Competent in Microsoft Office;
  • Strong networking writing skills;
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines;
  • Understanding local market dynamics and see where the UK offers a potential;
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Work experience from a similar field or within international business development.
