The British Embassy Dubai has a vacancy for a Communications Officer for a fixed-term contract of one (1) year, with a possibility of extension.

The jobholder will be based in the UK Government’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Communications Hub at the British Embassy in Dubai and will work with regional communications colleagues to build on successful Arabic language work to create and deliver a Farsi language strategic communications strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and highly-motivated individual to play a key role on communications work.

This new position will also support a range of communications and media related functions. You will lead on monitoring and reporting on Farsi language social media and will also create engaging content for digital platforms, as well as traditional print/ broadcast media, and deliver campaigns. As part of the wider MENA Communications Network, you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities and support. You should be flexible and be ready to learn and adapt in line with evolving priorities.


Duties and responsibilities:

- Digital and translation (50%)

  • Monitor Farsi speaking social media platforms. Provide analysis and reporting on subjects as tasked.
  • Manage digital content, generating and updating material.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of strategic digital campaigns to support the delivery of UK objectives.
  • Evaluate output from social media platforms. Track and report on the performance and impact of digital content published, and advise how to improve performance.
  • Translate Farsi media activity into English and contribute to a daily press summary.

- Content creation (30%)

  • In cooperation with the Regional Communications Team, plan and produce engaging content on social media platforms as tasked.
  • Lead on producing high-quality visual content (e.g., infographics, videos, photos, etc.) for digital channels.
  • Manage archive of photos and videos.

- Strategic communications (20%) - In cooperation with Regional Communications colleagues, create and deliver strategic campaigns that communicate the UK’s priorities to Farsi speaking audiences.

    • A good understanding of the Farsi media landscape. Knowledge/ experience of Farsi language media (broadcast, print, and/ or online).
    • Ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication, in English and Farsi. Ability to write to a high standard for a wide range of audiences.
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with international media outlets.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with confidence to work on their own initiative. Proven ability to engage and influence at a senior level internally and with external contacts, and collaborate effectively across Embassy teams.
    • Ability to multi-task and have good organisational skills. Ability to respond quickly and flexibly to meet multiple and changing priorities.
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes.
    • Social media management experience.

    • Experience of working in a governmental or international organisation.
    • Technical editing/production skills.

    The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of annual leave per annum, on-site parking, on-site swimming pool, gym, and sports facilities.

    Salary is at AED 13,743 per month.

    There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

    Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07:30 to 15:06, including a lunch break of 36 minutes, from Sunday to Thursday.

    The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as media and communications work may involve working out of hours to meet business needs. Work outside core hours will be compensated by time off in lieu (TOIL) or, by prior agreement, overtime.

    Flexible and remote working to meet individual needs will be considered in line with FCO and Embassy policies.
