Main purpose of job

The UK government sees Latin America and the Caribbean as a significant opportunity for UK economy.  The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) is recruiting for the position of  DIT Campaign Manager – Mexico, Colombia and Peru to help seize all the opportunities Mexico, Peru and Colombia have to offer.

The position will report directly to the Head of Marketing and Communications for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Department for International Trade in Mexico.  The position will be based at the British Embassy in Mexico City but will involve traveling.  This is a full time position, temporary until 31 March 2020 but may be extended, subject to review.

The position will lead the marketing activity and GREAT campaign activities in Mexico (primary market) and Colombia and Peru (secondary markets), supporting all the Trade and Investment Teams.  This is a fascinating and busy role allowing someone interested in business development and marketing to work in a great diplomatic mission at an exciting period in UK/Latin America trade and investment relations.

What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

The DIT Campaign Manager for Mexico, Colombia and Peru will implement the UK’s DIT's marketing campaigns in Mexico (primary market) and Colombia and Peru (secondary markets), providing marketing support to all.

The DIT Campaign Manager will:

  • Develop marketing plans for each sector/country and UK government objectives, which include activities that support the outcome achievements and long-term profitability.
  • Implement DIT marketing plans both in trade and investment, working closely with sector teams to ensure we are targeting audiences and achieving outcomes effectively.
  • Overview all GREAT marketing activities and offer marketing advice and guidance to the Posts in marketing and branding topics ,as well best practice processes.
  • Control and manage multiple marketing budgets, including Great Challenge Fund (GCF), HVC budget and marketing funds.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to expand marketing efforts and pursue value for money media partnerships and sponsorships for all the trade and investment teams.
  • Localise international campaigns led by London (Great Campaign, Trade Campaign & Invest in Great Campaign) and train teams to use the campaigns effectively with 100% compliance.
  • As part of the Latin America (LATAM) Marketing hub, one of our focus is to give excellent service to the DIT’s Heads of Trade & Investment and sector teams throughout the regions.  This will require excellent customer service skills focused on DIT commercial needs and results.
  • Work closely with the communications managers at all Posts, creating a strong synergy, delivering desired outcomes together.
  • Work closely with digital managers and use their strategies to send out key messages through social and email marketing campaigns.
  • Working in close liaison with the broader communications team / media and public affairs team, as well as with trade and investment officers in LATAM.
  • Be able to create, develop and amend creative text, focused on developing accessible marketing materials to be used on digital and printed platforms to raise awareness of the strengths the UK offers (in Spanish and English).
  • Be able to plan and deploy events when required.
  • Be the DIT and GREAT brand guardian in LATAM, ensuring adherence to branding guidelines, contributing to the implementation of DIT’s LATAM marketing strategy.
  • Collaborate with other UK stakeholders in Mexico and other UK Partners Across Government (PAGs) ie. Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Visit Britain, UK Export Finance, UK regions, British Council and wider stakeholders.
  • Be the internal marketing communications of DIT Mexico Champion, gathering and sending all the information required. 
  • To undertake other duties that may reasonably be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competencies of this position.

Essential on arrival:      

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in marketing, specifically organising events, creating marketing plans and managing budgets.
  • Excellent planner and budget management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in improving internal communications.
  • A confident self-starter, able to form effective relationships quickly both within and outside the team.
  • A positive and flexible team player who is willing to contribute to the team’s overall objectives.
  • Able to deal with a range of competing priorities in a calm, efficient and professional manner, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Confident in dealing with a range of contacts at all levels.
  • Organised and efficient in work and time management.
  • Proven capability to implement quantifiable measurements to marketing plans.
  • Understanding of the full range of MS Office suite including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team (you will be working closely with the network communications team, Marketing hub in Mexico and various teams in London).
  • Excellent level of Spanish and English, both written and spoken. 
  • Willingness to travel within Mexico and internationally.

Desirable:

  • InDesign and Photoshop experience, or similar.
  • Photograpy experience.
  • Copywriting experience.
