View Vacancy - Science & Innovation Intern
The Science and Innovation (S&I) team in Boston seeks a Science and Innovation Intern for the spring semester. This is an opportunity to work in international science diplomacy and high-level government science policy for the UK government. The Science and Innovation Intern will design a policy research programme which they will deliver over the course of the semester. The Boston S&I team is flexible with scheduling if the intern would like to work on an independent policy research project. The Boston S&I team is responsible for maintaining the UK government’s science and innovation interests in the US states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The successful candidate will join a team of two led by the Regional Director for Science & Innovation, East Coast. The Boston team is one of 7 S&I teams throughout the US coordinated by the British Embassy in Washington, DC. Globally, the UK S&I network comprises 93 officers in 35 countries around the world.
The work of the UK S&I network is guided by the following objectives:
- Influence science and innovation policies of governments, industry and academia to benefit the UK
- Improve UK policy based on international experience and emerging opportunities and challenges
- Stimulate strategic science collaborations to benefit the UK and deliver wider policy goals
- Harness international technology partnerships and investment to grow UK

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and report on the New England “offer” for priority sectors.
- Attend meetings, events or conferences covering S&I topics.
- Establish, manage and attend meeting series to engage with local stakeholders.
- Focus on conception and delivery of high-profile science events.
- Must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, preferably in science or international relations, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships is required.
Under US State requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Documents. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
