Gardening

Main purpose of job:

The Gardener is responsible for maintaining the gardens of the BHC/DFID offices to a very high standard while maintaining high levels of health and safety. The incumbent may be required to provide gardening services at BHC residences; and work with other Estates and Maintenance staff to set up equipment and furniture for BHC events and functions.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Maintain the BHC/DFID compound by ensuring the green areas are mown regularly; weeding and deadheading plants, clearing dead leaves and watering all the plants.
  • Treating trees and plants with the necessary compound to rid them of pest and mould infestations.
  • Prune trees and shrubs as necessary.
  • Ensure the perimeter fence is kept free of creepers
  • Maintain Compost bins
  • Manage and take care of all gardening equipment issued to you.
  • Report any defects or loss to the Estates Officer– Office immediately.
  • Assist the Estates team with any additional duties as requested i.e.  furniture deliveries, Remembrance Sunday preparations,QBP preparations,Supervisory works
  • Clean and keep drainages in garden clear of debris
  • Ensure PPE is worn at all times when carrying out duties as required to comply with Health and Safety.

 

 

  • 3 – 5 years Gardening experience in a similar organisation.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Health and Safety standards.
  • Good spoken and written English.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
