The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Estates Handyman, job grade S1.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the British Embassy Amman’s Corporate Services Team and will take direction from the Estates Manager. You will be responsible for providing high quality assistance and support services to the Estates Team and across the Embassy’s offices and facilities. Your role will bring you into contact with staff at all grades and you will need to ensure that you remain customer focussed and responsive at all times.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Taking daily instructions and tasks from the Estates Manager or other members of the Estates Team as necessary.
  • Moving furniture and other items within the Embassy’s office and compound , and from / to HMA Residence.
  • Assemble furniture whenever needed.
  • Purchasing low value official items from suppliers using a Government Procurement (credit) Card.
  • Collecting goods from suppliers.
  • Escorting external contractors on their regular visits to the embassy and compound.
  • Covering the work of the other team members when they are away.
  • Regular Recording water, diesel levels in the bulk tanks and wells and filling out necessary documents.
  • Checking and supervising the refilling of utilities (water ) at the Embassy on a regular basis.
  • Managing the furniture store, keeping it tidy, and keeping the inventory updated under the Estates Officer supervision.
  • Daily rounds around the compound(inside and outside), and daily reporting to the Head of Estates on any observations during those rounds.   

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of JOD 769 per month based on a 37 hours per week.

Please note that your salary will be paid gross and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities. If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary, which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax.  Further information on this will be given to candidates at interview if necessary.

This role is for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period (as appropriate). The selected candidate must have a right to live and work in Jordan.
