The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking to recruit a Logistics and Security Officer.

As the Logistics and Security Officer you will work with the Embassy Security team to ensure a safe and secure working environment for the staff and visitors to the British Embassy, The Hague. Our Logistics and Security Officer is the first point of call / front of house for staff, visitors and members of the public. You will also contribute as a team player in support of the wider aspects of the Embassy and drive the senior members of the Embassy, as well as senior UK visitors. 

Roles and responsibilities:

Front Desk Duties

  • Deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner;
  • Deal with inquiries from the public either by telephone or in person at the Embassy;
  • Scan all incoming mail and deliveries;
  • Facilitate entry of visitors to the Embassy in the appropriate manner;
  • Deal with email inquiries from staff and external stakeholders;
  • Manage & maintain multiple outlook diaries;
  • Contribute to updating security policies and procedures. 

Driving Duties

  • Official driving duties done with professionalism, including occasional out of hours drives;
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, efficient and professional transport fleet.

Security & Access Control

  • Supervise access to the buildings of the British Embassy and British Consulate during office hours;
  • Supervise security and other work in and around the buildings and staff accommodation;
  • Undertake security checks;
  • Liaise with local police, municipality and security staff in other Missions;
  • Monitor the CCTV system;
  • Supervise access to the Ambassador’s Residence during official events.

Multilateral 

  • Participate in ensuring a good and positive Embassy security culture;
  • Support roles and tasks in the wider Embassy as and when required.

  • Full professional proficiency in English, including excellent writing skills (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level according to CEFR*);
  • Experience of working in a customer facing role;
  • Valid driving license with no endorsements; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly with others;
  • Capacity to work flexible hours as and when needed, including occasional weekend work which is reimbursed via overtime payments or TOIL if preferred;
  • Ability to understand customers’ needs;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Teams.
  • Spoken proficiency in Dutch would be highly beneficial
  • Working experience within the retail or hospitality industries would be preferable.
  • Experience working under pressure, or in short term crisis scenarios.

The base salary for this position is € 3,017.98 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% holiday bonus is payable each year. The successful candidate will initially be offered a 12 month employment contract at S1 grade level.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in the Netherlands and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in the Netherlands. The successful candidate will be required to provide a BSN (citizen service number) on their start date and will need to arrange and pay for their own travel and accommodation, as well as any other living costs. The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check. Any job offer is also subject to a successful security clearance check.        

Salary/tax conditions: The British Embassy is a tax-withholding agent. The 30% ruling is not applicable to the role. Under the terms of the UK/NL Double Taxation Convention (Article 18 1(b)(ii), UK nationals who move to the Netherlands to take up their new role at the Embassy or who start working at the Embassy with no previous record of working in the Netherlands,  will be placed on a tax abated salary if deemed to be eligible for Dutch income tax exemption on their salary. Qualifying staff will have no Dutch income tax levied on their salary and will therefore be paid an abated salary reduced by the applicable tax they would have had to pay if that local liability had existed. A tax abated salary ensures a fair and comparable take home pay. Staff on tax abated salaries cannot claim tax benefits in the Netherlands but they are fully and comprehensively covered for social security and deemed to be resident local staff for all intents and purposes.
