The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit a Senior Trade Adviser for the Department for International Trade (DIT) Bucharest Team.

DIT is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Romania and other international markets. DIT also assists overseas companies to bring high-quality investment to the UK’s economy.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Assist UK companies to successfully access the Romanian market in the sectors of responsibility: Energy – Nuclear, Renewables, Oil & Gas, Clean Coal;
  • Generate and deliver DIT targets: export opportunities, export wins, Overseas Market Introduction Services (payable services) for the British companies, service deliveries etc., according to the activities agreed in the DIT Business Plan;
  • Lead Nuclear High Value Campaign at regional level, coordinating the regional activities and development of the sector in the Central and Eastern European Network comprising 11 markets: Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia;
  • Conduct market research: develop knowledge and contacts within the sectors of interest, participate to trade fairs and events, keep abreast of the Romanian economic situation, overall business environment and developments in the sectors of responsibility, draft official reports;
  • Perform and record administrative duties in time, in a proper manner according to DIT and Post requirements and CRM system in use;
  • Resource Management of project budgets and of one Trade Development Adviser.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and fluency in English and Romanian, both verbal and written, with excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a diverse and cross cultural environment;
  • Strong track record of business development / sales experience required and market awareness of the sectors of responsibility mentioned above;
  • Business / economic / financial background;
  • Proved budget management experience;
  • Strong team player;
  • Excellent personal communication and organisational skills;
  • Good abilities of researching, collecting and processing data and market information;
  • Attention to detail;
  • IT literacy.

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) for one year, with the possibility to be extended. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys an average of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

The salary is RON 5,584 gross per month. In addition, staff receive meal tickets, a thirteenth salary on a pro rata basis and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 20 days.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.

The start date for the position is 1 October 2016 (this may be negotiable for the right candidate).
