The British Embassy in Germany is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an EU Team Assistant.

The main purpose of this role is to provide secretarial support to the EU / Economics Counsellor, as well as administrative support to the EU team of the Embassy. The job holder will be responsible for arranging meetings and travel, preparing ministerial and official visit programmes, organising events and carrying out general administrative duties. New Embassy structures over the fifteen months may require the jobholder to provide similar support to other teams.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Provide secretarial support to the EU / Economics Counsellor: maintain the officer’s diary, including arranging meetings and travel; register and receive visitors, process expenses, prepare and manage correspondence.  Provide cover for the Ambassador’s Private Office as required;
    Provide administrative support to the EU section: assist with arranging meetings and travel for two officers, maintain a contacts database, carry out ad-hoc research tasks and organise events. Support and provide cover for other staff as required;
  • Arrange ministerial and official visit programmes, ensuring that the programmes run smoothly and that logistical details such as transport, registration, venues and catering are properly arranged.
  • Fluency in English and German (both oral and written);
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar role;
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to work as part of a team;
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to new working environments.
  • Professional report writing skills;

  • Very good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, Access and Excel.

This is a temporary full-time position as the current job holder is covering maternity leave. We expect the position to be available for a period of 15 months, however this can be shorter or longer. Working hours are 37.5 per week.

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Germany. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorization for Germany in order to apply. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of six months.
