Main purpose of job
Your every day job will provide an insight into the public diplomacy work of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the opportunity to learn about the UK’s work on a range of issues that include human rights, foreign policy, security issues and official visits.
We prepare and deliver successful visits inward of senior officials. The team plans programmes and organises hotel accommodation, transportation and hospitality for the visitor. We are also responsible for booking VIP Suites and special facilities at the airport. The smooth running of these ambitious events is of high importance to the UK and the FCO, both in maintaining our international reputation for exceptional logistics organisation, and in creating the best possible environment for discussion to help secure foreign policy objectives.
Roles and responsibilities
- Support in designing programmes for official senior visits sponsored by the Embassy, assisting on logistics.
- Help the Political team to operate as efficiently as possible by ensuring effective communication with Mexican government departments, businesses, and other non-governmental institutions, as well as with all areas of the Embassy and stakeholders in the UK in order to facilitate and deliver programmes and activities.
- Research and draft briefings about the human rights situation in Mexico, security issues, domestic politics and foreign policy.
- Provide administrative and logistics support for the Political team’s daily tasks and events.
- Draft correspondence briefings for the team in Spanish and English as required.
- Create and maintain lists of Mexican and international contacts for the Section
- Join the Foreign Policy and Senior Visits Officers on meetings with external stakeholders – an opportunity to broaden your horizons and professional network.

- Be familiar with and have an interest in key international policy issues and diplomacy.
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate relationship building both internally and externally.
- Must be able to provide information in an understandable format to stakeholders.
- Should be a proactive and creative self-starter with the ability to learn quickly.
- Good communication & drafting skills in English and Spanish.
- Student or recent graduate of university studies in International Relations, Law, Communications, Political Science or related subject
Visits and Protocol/etiquette – event management and organisation experience.
