The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide diplomatic network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy is looking to employ a professional driver dedicated to driving the British Defence Attaché. On occasions the employee will also drive British dignitaries, senior Defence officials and other members of the Defence Team.

In addition the role provides logistic support to the Defence Attaché’s outer office, while working in coordination with the Ambassador’s driver and the Embassy Security Section. This includes courier and delivery tasks.  

This is an exciting opportunity for a person seeking a challenging and varied role driving senior officials and providing logistic support within a professional and inclusive team environment.

Roles and responsibilities:

Drive the Defence Attaché (DA), members of the Defence Section and UK MOD visitors on official journeys according to the weekly programme. The Defence Section’s dedicated vehicle is a premium Sports Utility Vehicle.

Drive other members of the Embassy staff and official visitors on an occasional basis, as detailed by DA, or Office Manager.

Coordinate with Dutch Government security and police services in order to ensure effective risk management and security at public events involving British Defence officials.

Carry out mail runs and other courier, collection and delivery missions, arrange taxis and co-ordinate other travel arrangements, as detailed by DA, or Office Manager.

Prepare route plans and timings, consult traffic bulletins and police sources to ensure journeys are completed to time.

Attend to fuelling, maintenance, servicing, repairs and cleaning of the dedicated vehicle in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook. This includes managing a forecast of likely servicing and maintenance costs to ensure all expenditure is approved.

Miscellaneous tasks in support of Defence Section objectives as directed by DA or Office Manager

Miscellaneous tasks in support of The Embassy.

Valid and clean European driving licence – Must have held this for minimum 3 years.

Strong communications skills – written and oral, able to communicate effectively in English.

Prepared to work outside of normal office hours, including at weekends, on an overtime basis.  

Strong Organisational skills.

Experience working in an international environment.

Physically fit to drive safely and respond to challenging situations.

Able to help deliver official events, carry luggage and shift portable equipment.

Able to work flexibly including weekend work when needed and occasionally overnight.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work well with others.

Ability to understand mission requirements and deliver results accordingly.

Prior military service.

Experience of driving in adverse weather conditions and off tarmac roads.

Experience of driving executives/diplomats.

Dutch speaker.
