Community Liaison

The Main purpose of a Community Liaison officer is to be an advocate for and provide support to UK based staff and families on family and community issues, primarily in the area of information gathering, welfare and communication. We strive to be the best in class therefore we wish to provide the highest of service to families before arrival, on arrival, and during their time at post. CLO tasks focus on family issues, in particular those relating to orientation, advice, information and welfare.  The purpose of this job is to ensure that officers, spouses and families are well introduced and integrated into life at post. A skilled and dedicated CLO makes a real difference to welfare and morale.

Provision of local information relevant to Embassy families currently residing at post or considering taking up a position at the Embassy

For families, partners and officers ( including those not yet at post) primarily on Spouse/Partner employment at Post, child and adult education, care and training opportunities, single officer and foreign born spouse issues, recreational facilities, social matters and completion of all DSFA returns. Provide an arrival welcome pack, ensuring the information it contains is relevant and up to date. 

Communicating effectively on community and social matters within post via the fortnightly Newsletter. This newsletter is primarily a forum for the Embassy community to share experiences of life at post, advertise events or articles for sale, and (less often) seek assistance from other members of the community.

Welfare support to officers and their families

Welcoming single officers, couples and families as well as officers on temporary duty. Ensuring a smooth integration into the post community. Follow up to check that the settling in process is working. Being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise. Provide a short orientation for all new arrivals at post. Facilitating community events, including regular meetings.

Helping to co-ordinate the post report, ensuring the welcome pack is relevant.  Maintain the family room and library.

Advocate on behalf of officers and their families

Advocate for UK based staff and dependants in addressing issues of importance with post authorities, including as their representative on Post Management Committee, Post Security Committee, Housing Committee, Evacuation/contingency planning and the chief link between post and DSFA in London.

Maintaining personal data

Maintain an accurate record of all FCO/DFID/BC and locally employed staff’s emergency contact details. Maintain a security contact list that includes all school contacts and a copy of their emergency plans.

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Fluency in the English language

Previous relevant experience, including experience of previous overseas postings with the FCO or OGDs would be an advantage.
