The British Embassy in Copenhagen is part of a worldwide network, representing British political & economic and consular interests overseas and is currently looking for a Public Diplomacy Officer. We are looking for a determined, self-sufficient, enterprising and results-oriented individual who is driven by an interest in public diplomacy and international relations.

The main purpose of the role is to help develop and run the Embassy’s digital and in-person public diplomacy strategy and budgets, by designing and delivering campaigns and events, which support UK objectives. The jobholder will help to promote a strong, productive and mutually beneficial UK-Denmark bilateral relationship, and promote the UK and its values and culture in Denmark.

The jobholder’s primary roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and coordinate delivery of the Embassy’s public diplomacy strategy, in support of the UK objectives.

  • Design, develop and deliver virtual and in-person events and campaigns.

  • Deliver events in support of COP26, equality, human rights and the bilateral UK-Denmark relationship.

  • Develop eye-catching and engaging digital content to support public diplomacy activity.

  • Think creatively and develop novel ways to promote the UK’s policy objectives through soft power.

  • Develop relationships with key partner organisations, including NGOs and civil society groups to assist us in achieving our goals.

  • Grow the British Embassy Copenhagen’s sphere of influence with a range of different audiences.

  • Work with colleagues and teams across the Embassy to integrate public diplomacy into their work.

  • Have day-to day oversight of the Embassy’s public diplomacy budget.

  • Monitor similar organisations’ public diplomacy work.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field;

  • Experience of developing and delivering successful public communication or public diplomacy campaigns;

  • Experience of designing and delivering public events;

  • Knowledge of the Danish political landscape and civil society actors;

  • Experience of producing digital content;

  • Enthusiastic, energetic and highly creative team player with a passion for public diplomacy;

  • Strong communication skills – written and oral, able to communicate effectively in English (to at least level C1 CEFR)* and Danish (to at least level B1 CEFR)*.



  • Experience or knowledge of working in an international environment;

  • Experience working with Danish and international NGOs;

  • Experience working with Danish political actors.

This is a full-time permanent contract of 35 hours net per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Denmark in order to apply.
