The British Embassy in Moscow is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Trade Policy Officer.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the United Kingdom Government’s international business development agency helping UK-based companies to succeed in the global economy.  Its range of expert services is tailored to the needs of individual businesses to maximise their international success. It provides companies with knowledge, advice and practical support. DIT has identified Russia as a key market and they will oversee the delivery of challenging targets to increase bilateral trade and investment. Following an internal reorganisation, DIT has a position for a locally engaged Trade Policy Officer, who will be based in Moscow, working collaboratively with colleagues across the network.

The main purpose of this role will be to support the UK based DIT management team in liaising with London on current sanctions and counter sanctions policy and changes to legislation that may affect existing UK investors and exporters and those new to the market. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working to identify key policy areas across all sectors that may affect UK/Russia business;
  • Building a strong network of contacts (both in the UK and in Russia) to inform and assist in delivering UK priorities;
  • Working closely with colleagues at post, both in Moscow and other relevant posts, to provide timely and targeted reporting of meetings and developments in trade policy (including sanctions legislation), and advising colleagues accordingly; 
  • Representing the UK in working level groups and technical meetings where appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills, including fluency in both Russian and English (both oral and written);
  • A self-starter, able to work autonomously and with experts in London and Moscow;
  • Excellent networking and organisational skills, and the ability to work under pressure;
  • The ability to manage and prioritise workload, drive agendas forward and deliver results;
  • Demonstrate initiative, problem solving and judgement skills;
  • Excellent (policy-oriented) research skills: The ability to find, manage, analyse, summarise and present complex and technical information.
  • Familiarity with UK government policies and structures;
  • Experience working in UK/Russia policy areas;
  • Strong policy skills, in particular experience in or knowledge of trade policy;
  • Good understanding of trade and investment promotion, and economic issues preferred.

This is a full-time permanent position for 5 working days, 35 hours net per week.

The monthly salary for this position is Rub 96,392 gross, B3(L) level, paid 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
