Main purpose of job:

Assist the store assistant with moving/delivering of furniture around the store/estate.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Familiarising, understand and apply best practice on the FCO health and safety standards in using and maintaining hand tools and basic light machinery.
  • Ensure that all tools are kept clean, tidy and securely stowed as per the FCO health and safety standards. As well as report any faulty appliances, damaged equipment or any potential hazards to the line manager.
  • You may be required to assist the estates team from time to time with adhoc duties, Such as the erection and dismantling of tables/chairs for official functions, supervising contractors, etc.
  • Move, carry and delivery of furniture across the estate as and when required. This includes duties for change of occupancy, etc
  • Carry out all maintenance request as per the Maintenance Officers request, ensuring that they have the correct tools before leaving the British High Commission ground
  • Ensure that stock levels are maintained for each of the vehicles
  • General Administration. Duties include reconciling Government Procurement Cards in accordance to the required deadlines, etc
  • Ad hoc duties as requested by the Estates Team
  • Any adhoc duties as requested by the Estates Team or Corporate Service Manager
  • Basic IT Skills
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Gardening Experience

Language requirements:  

Language: English

Level of language required: English, both written and verbal

  • Basic maintenance background would be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical work will be desirable.

  • The British High Commission pays in full for the Key Care Plus option on Discovery Health for staff including spouses/partners and dependants.
  • Once you have successfully completed your probation the British High Commission will contribute 9% of your monthly salary to a Provident Fund.
  • Annual leave entitlement of 25 days
  • Working hours per week of 36.5

This position is a key role at the High Commission, with direct exposure to the High Commissioner and senior members of the leadership team. You will meet and network with a wide range of internal and external contacts, offering an opportunity to position yourself as the focal point for the High Commission’s outward facing work.

Working patterns:

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements. There will also be times when the officer needs to work out of hours at a specific location – on occasion requiring overnight travel (for example during delivery of a visit programme). Appropriate expenses will be covered and time-off-in-lieu provided when this is the case.
