Who are we:
The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, representing British political, economic and consular interests in Romania and is seeking to recruit a paid Communications Intern to provide support for the Embassy’s Communications team.

Why should you apply:
The successful candidate will provide support for the Communications team, mainly on media monitoring, digital communications, and event organising, under the supervision of the Senior Media Officer and of the team leader. 

This role encompasses:

  • Drafting the daily press review and other media monitoring reports
  • Updating embassy social media channels (Facebook and Twitter)
  • Contributing to the organisation of public events in support of the other team members
  • Managing databases and to ensure the maintenance of the embassy video/photo equipment
  • Translating materials for the use of the domestic media 

Our ideal candidate shows:

  • Fluency in English and Romanian oral and written (minimum level required C1 under the CEFRL and equivalent*). Level of Languages will be assessed during the interview
  • The completion of a Bachelor university degree (This is an essential requirement. The candidate needs to be able to provide evidence in the form of the original licentiate)
  • Availability for full-time employment from July 2023 to July 2024
  • Good drafting, social media, and organisational skills
  • IT literacy
  • Flexibility to sometimes work out of office hours and on weekends on exciting projects (compensated by time off in lieu)
  • An interest to develop and seek opportunities by completing tailored training via our Diplomatic Academy

Good to have:

  • Video and photo editing skills
  • It is desirable that applicants are currently pursuing their Masters or have recently earned a Masters degree preferably in either of the following- Journalism, Public Relations, Political Sciences, European/International Affairs, but not exclusive of other degrees

This is a full-time fixed-term contract for 12 months (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 3000 RON gross.

An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.
