The British Consulate General in Istanbul is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit an Inward Investment Advisor to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

DIT is an international economic department securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment and championing free trade.

How can you contribute?

In this exciting position, the jobholder will lead on supporting Turkish companies to establish themselves and grow in the UK. You will help Turkish businesses to expand overseas, build new partnerships, and overcome barriers. You will work closely with colleagues across UK Government and the UK ecosystem to maximise the impact of your investment support.

You should be passionate about business development, have a clear understanding of the Turkish technology ecosystem and be up-to-date with commercial developments that will allow you and the team to be in the best position to support Turkish business. The work will be varied and demanding and you will need to be a flexible, committed self-starter and able to juggle priorities to demanding timelines.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To act as an advisor to Turkish companies/investors to create sustainable and job creating investments into the UK and meeting the annual targets in terms of the number and quality of companies established in the UK;
  • Identifying investment opportunities (in particular in Retail and ICT sectors) and promote the UK offering to sustainable and value creating Turkish companies to establish their operations in the UK;
  • Providing timely and accurate advice, in depth sector briefing and assistance to Turkish companies;
  • Taking care of the existing pipeline companies as well as creating a pipeline of potential investors through proactive lead generation by organising events, participating at external events and using multipliers;
  • Building and using an effective network of contacts across the UK and Turkey, including at senior level;
  • Putting the information in the DIT customer management system (Data Hub), helping create a virtual project team, overseeing the completion of the project and ensuring the necessary evidence is collected to successfully record project wins;
  • Undertake other duties that may reasonably be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competences of the job (i.e. preparation for and active participation in Ministerial level visits).
  • Graduation from a reputable university;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a multinational organisation, preferably in business development side;
  • Fluency in Turkish and English, both written and spoken ( minimum of C1 CEFR framework level language*);
  • High relationship management skills (both with the Clients and service providers);
  • Self-starting, professionalism, confidence, proactive and persistence to call on companies and other stakeholders to generate leads, building the pipeline and securing project wins;
  • Ability to prioritise, efficient time management, good planning skills;
  • Proven ability to build strong and effective networks and relationships with a range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders and partners;
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in working in a similar role;
  • Experience in working in an international environment and virtual teams;
  • Having participated in organising events/seminars;
  • Broad sector information and knowledge in Turkey to map suitable targets for inward investment.

This is a full-time, temporary contract for 12 months, with possibility of renewal for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The monthly salary for this position is 2.602  USD gross, paid in 12 instalments, grade level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
