The British Embassy in Serbia is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit an energetic, enthusiastic and motivated Intern to work in the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The DIT helps UK-based companies to succeed in Serbia and other international markets and it works with companies overseas to bring high-quality investment to the UK. The team in Serbia is part of DIT’s Central Europe Network (CEN), which comprises of 10 markets: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The intern would be engaged in assisting in the team’s daily work but predominantly with the HVC activities and other supporting activities related to team’s targets. The intern will have some access to UK Government formal and informal training opportunities and will be encouraged to make use of their internship to develop a wider set of personal skills.

To work closely in the coordination and delivery of the team’s key projects in FY 2017-2018, the jobholder will conduct directed research into relevant HVC sectors and identify potential customers, business partners, relevant local events and business opportunities for UK firms; to assist the team’s daily work in dealing with high volume, low value enquiries to the team, in order to allow the team to concentrate on delivering the high value Export Wins crucial to meeting our targets this year; to assist team in delivering EO strategy. The assistance of an Intern would also allow the team to concentrate on facilitating and developing relationship with CEN DIT colleagues, WB4 network, UK HQ, other Embassy teams and other relevant institutions.

In more detail, main responsibilities will include:

  • To assist the team with various ad-hoc administrative tasks on a daily basis such as: data entry; book travel and accommodation; prepare the technology for web-conferences; analyse the team’s performance against its targets;
  • Research into relevant industrial sectors, and identification of potential customers, business partners, relevant local events and business opportunities for UK firms;
  • Assist team's daily work on briefing UK companies on opportunities, risks and processes for exporting to Serbia;
  • Export opportunities: using different resources for finding accurate tenders/export opportunities relevant for the UK businesses; export opportunities administration;
  • Research relevant laws, regulations, processes, key contacts relevant to overall team’s activities;
  • Assist the team in establishing and facilitating its relationship with regional DIT colleagues, UK HQ and other relevant institutions;
  • Record team's achievements / performance (CDMS, Export Opportunities records, Export Wins record, etc); booking travel and accommodation; preparing the technology for web-conferences, liaising on e.g. ICT issues; and other ad-hoc administrative tasks;
  • Provide support to the Embassy Prosperity Group, including taking minutes at the meetings, providing support to the Group and accompanying/note taking on Prosperity related calls;
  • A strongly-performing intern will assist in preparation of briefing notes for the British Ambassador and Head of DIT; become involved in preparation of budget returns; and will periodically represent the DIT Serbia at internal embassy meetings;
  • A strongly-performing intern will communicate directly with DIT’s customers; and represent the DIT at events in Serbia.
  • Fluency in English and Serbian (both oral and written);
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to details;
  • IT literacy.
  • Strong candidates will have a demonstrable ability to learn quickly, and have a grasp of the core concepts of international business, economics and public administration.

This is an internship placement of 5 working days, 39 gross hours per week. The working hours are Monday-Thursday 0800-1630h, and Friday 0800-1300h.

A supervisor will guide the Intern and provide on-the-job training. The internship will offer an opportunity to get insight into the work of the DIT team and to learn about Trade and Investment in an international environment. The British Embassy will offer an internship allowance of € 15.00 net per day at work, during the period of up to 6.5 months, payable in Dinars at the corporate rate of exchange. Payment of relevant contributions and tax is subject to the local legal regulations.

The intern will need to arrange and pay for his or her own travel, accommodation, as well as any other costs.

The successful internship candidate will be subject to a confirmation of a background check and security clearance. The internship candidate will be subject to the conditions of agreement with the Embassy.

Interns are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate if applicable to them. Employer is responsible for payment of monthly contributions and tax.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorization for Serbia in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Serbia are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Serbian employment law.
