Economic and Prosperity

The British Embassy in Lisbon is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Currently, the Economic and Prosperity team is offering an internship of 6 months.

The Prosperity Intern will report directly to the Economics and Prosperity Attaché and will advance the UK’s prosperity agenda and contribute to the Embassy’s economic and commercial work

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to economic reporting and policy analysis;
  • Conduct research projects on the UK-Portugal bilateral economic relationship, including in the post-Brexit context;
  • Undertake analysis and research to build the evidence base for our prosperity work, including on e.g. financial services, science and research;
  • Participate in projects aimed at i) identifying market access barriers faced by UK exporters and investors; ii) tracking and mapping new export opportunities for UK companies and; iii) improving the business environment in Portugal.
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese ( oral and written);
  • Completed undergraduate degree (or finalising masters degree) in the fields of Economics, Business Management, Finance, International Relations (with a strong economic content);
  • Good communication skills (oral and written);
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
  • Previous work experience and/or evidence of working in teams and projects;
  • Ability to think strategically to spot opportunities

This is a full-time, 6 months internship contract for 5 working days (35 hours net) per week.

 The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.
