Main purpose of job:

To undertake Economic and Trade analysis, policy and project support work, administrative and financial duties. This position involves research, organisational and communication skills as well as budget responsibilities. It also includes work on visits.

 

Roles and responsibilities

Trade support: Support UK Trade Diplomacy by providing analysis, background material and briefings for the UK Embassy team in Brazil, Head Office in London and ministers. You will accompany high-level meetings and produce succinct meeting readouts. Maintain and develop the stakeholder network in economic and trade areas. Build up your and the team’s skills on trade policy, particularly on the trade relationship between the UK and Brazil, including in the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Market access support: Maintain information on market access issues faced by UK companies ensuring regular, systematic engagement with the Brazilian government and UK stakeholders with the aim of trade facilitation. Follow agricultural files working with colleagues across the UK Network in Brazil and external stakeholders.

Analytical support: Assist with analysis, provide analytic support and research assistance to report on and inform policy issues for the FCO and Department of International Trade (DIT) in London, and the Brazil network. Engage with London and with external stakeholders about significant macroeconomic and trade issues in Brazil. Monitor macroeconomic and trade news for opportunities for UK business and trade diplomacy.

Administrative and Financial support: Scheduling meetings, organise travel and visits, and liaise with key stakeholders (internal and external) as well as other government departments. Assist team with financial management of team’s entertainment and travel budgets, ensuring compliance with UK Government guidelines and value for money. 

You will be expected to work flexibly across the network’s priorities.

 

Resources managed:

Monitor and reconcile £11,000 annual, team budget.

  • Relevant University Degree (or equivalent experience), preferably related to Economics or Trade or International Relations.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communications and writing skills in both English and Portuguese.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Excel (including both spreadsheet and graphical representation functions). 
  • 2 years prior work experience in an office environment. 
  • Advanced understanding of the Brazilian domestic economy.
  • Advanced knowledge of Brazilian Trade Policy and ongoing negotiations. 
  • Budget management experience. 
  • Experience of working with government or public institutions.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese.
