DIT works with UK-based businesses to   ensure their success in international markets, and encourage the best   overseas companies to look to the UK as their global partner of choice. Working closely with the Head of Trade   & Investment and other colleagues across the Caribbean region, the Trade   & Investment Officer will be responsible for providing strategic advice   for Jamaica; Bahamas & Turks & Caicos on business opportunities and   market entry pathways for UK companies seeking to export into the market;   project manage trade missions and other commercial events; and deliver   tailored business services against set targets for quality, impact and   quantity.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Help UK businesses in the sectors succeed in Jamaica, through exports.
  • Assist any local companies in sectors that have an interest and capacity to invest in the UK via colleagues at DIT.
  • Undertake a targeted initiative visiting programme on individuals, companies, business organisations, Government Departments/Ministries and Statutory Corporations to promote UK goods, services and investment.
  • Undertake training and market promotion visits to UK.
  • Collect and disseminate information on the local market via the DIT website.
  • Report on specific export/business opportunities, tenders, market pointers, potential agency opportunities and potential joint venture opportunities and follow-up on any successful contacts established.
  • Cyclically review and up-date sector summaries that are held locally and ensure that information contained on the DIT and BHC websites is current and pertinent.
  • Handle correspondence with DIT, British and local firms, organisations and individuals.
  • Research, prepare and deliver chargeable services (Overseas Market Introduction Service: OMIS).
  • Provide assistance to visiting British businesspersons by:

Providing information on the general economic and political situation.

Suggesting names of suitable contacts, etc.

  •  Support British Trade Missions and participation in local trade exhibitions.
  • Provide assistance to local business callers by suggesting British sources of supply and directing enquiries towards British suppliers
  • Attend meetings of British Business Groups/Associations as required
  • Visit local exhibitions and attend seminars.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Jamaica; Bahamas; Turks & Caicos economy and   political developments.
  • Undertake such other related activities as may be assigned from time to time.
