Corporate Services Brussels (CSB) is a joint service leading on operational support to all of the UK Diplomatic Missions in Brussels including our Permanent Representation to the EU, in key areas such as security, finance, pooled transport, HR, IT and high level business hospitality. 

Within CSB a vacancy has arisen for a Waiter/Household Assistant working within the British Diplomatic Residence. This is a busy, challenging and rewarding role, and the successful candidate will work within a team, undertaking a range of duties to support the effective running of the residence operation in providing a shared hospitality platform across the UK Diplomatic Missions based in Brussels. This is a live-out position, although in exceptional circumstances there may be an occasional requirement to stay overnight at the Residence, in which case staff accommodation will be provided.

Main responsibilities:

  • Events: All aspects of preparation and food & beverage service delivery to a consistently high (5*) standard, under the supervision of the Maître d’Hôtel; set-up and breakdown of events, including some manual tasks such as moving equipment or furniture;
  • Overnight guests: greeting guests with special attention to VIPs, assistance with luggage, service of refreshments and breakfast. Ad-hoc requests eg shirt pressing;
  • Cleaning: Responsible for some general cleaning duties, including public areas;
  • General: On occasion, there may be a requirement to perform simple catering tasks, for which training will be given;
  • Any other duties in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Strong hospitality skills and previous experience of Food & Beverage service in an hotel, restaurant or private residence setting, 5 star standard desirable;
  • Previous silver service experience;
  • Ability to demonstrate consistently high standards of service, with strong attention to detail;
  • Strong verbal communication skills and excellent customer focus;
  • Good operational level of spoken French and English;
  • Ability to work within a team;
  • Ability to exercise discretion;
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate adaptability;
  • Ability to work flexibly in respect of working hours and duties;
  • Willing to take on new responsibilities as necessary;
  • Ability to undertake manual tasks.
  • Knowledge of Dutch advantageous but not essential;
  • Ability to take on the role of Residence Audio-Visual champion – looking after the set up and testing of in-house AV equipment (speakers, microphone etc.) as required.

This is a full-time, permanent domestic contract, for 5 working days (40 hours net) per week, organised on a shift basis. Flexibility will be required, incuding early, late and split shifts, with occasional weekend working and some overtime.

We offer:

  • Monthly gross salary for this position is €2.451,60, S1 (L) level (The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation);
  • Monthly meal allowance will be paid;
  • The individual will work in uniform, which will be provided.

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
